Who We Are: Caroline Simard

Director of Research

Caroline pictureI manage and direct the Anita Borg Institute’s research initiatives. Currently, my focus in on our major research initiative with the Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University and the evaluation and impact measurement of our programs. 

I am passionate about social science and its role in creating practical solutions to social problems. Prior to ABI I was a Researcher at the Center for Social Innovation of the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

I have a PhD in communication studies from Stanford University, with a focus on organizational behavior, high-technology industries, and social networks. My publications have focused on the barriers to the diffusion of best practices, managing open innovation, regional clusters of innovation, the role of social networks in the circulation of knowledge in technical communities, and nonprofit management.

In my lack of free time, you will find me having dinners with friends and pursuing a project of turning my dissertation work into a book about engineering practice and knowledge networks, as well as writing papers on nonprofit management.
